INTRODUCING

Friend and Local Performer

Pete Herzog

My name is Pete Herzog and I play what might best be described as roots music, being blues, bluegrass, folk and the precursors to all those. I try to reach back to an ancient place even when playing a recent composition. I tie everything I play to the roots that transcends generations or styles and classifications.

Apart from music, I love photography and long distance hiking. I have hiked the AT from Maine To Georgia three times and about two thirds of the PC on the West Coast.

Tools of the Trade

This Martin D-45 on the Right is about 15 years old. It has great sound and projection and it's my main Axe. I also have this strange "One of a Kind" Martin HD-28 (below). Strange in that it’s registered at Martin as a straight HD-28. However, It has an oversized sound hole (Clerance White Style) and very tasteful snow flake inlay (old D-45 style). It has incredable sound - almost like the D-45. The Martin Company says that it is registered as a regular HD-28 and should not have this top, and that  they don't know just how this happened, but they do make mistakes once in a great while. Both guitars were built in the same year (1993). The case shown was designed by me and hand tooled by a friend, Eugene Apapith. Last but not least, is a sweet (big) sounding new Gibson Advanced Jumbo.

For small rooms I like the sound of this very simple system.  I use Sure Mikes (the one shown below is a Bata  58). The Behringer Ultratone K3000FX is a 300 Wart, 4 channel PA system, Keyboard Amp. I run a small Yamaha MG82CX-8 (see photo below) through one of the Behringer channles for a perfect ballanced sound. I also use a small shoebox size powered speaker (Galaxy, Core PA 5X140) of balance and sound reinforcement.

For bigger gigs and out door concerts I use an older Mackie  408M FR Power mixer (shown below) and Peavey 15 speakers (old but great). I also use a simple Rolls Ear phone monitor amp (cheap but affective).
